Papers fot the Scientific Posters Seeions on Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences are invited. The maximum number of poster to be presented by an author shall be limited to three (3) poster only, i.e., ONE (1) as MAJOR AUTHOR and TWO (2) as CO-AUTHOR. The paper must be (a) original or have not been presented ibn any other forum, events or competition, (b) minimum of undergrauate thesis, no highscholl science projects or class laboratory experiments, and (c) no preliminary data. The author should provide a certification of originality for each entry.

The format specified below shall be followed

  • Paper size: 6" x 9"
    Margins: Top and Bottom = 1 in.; Right and Left = 0.75 in
  • Font type:Times New Roman
  • Title (centered, bold, upper and lower case, font size: 12)
  • Author(s) (centered, upper and lower case, font size; 11); authors should use first full names; presenting author underlined with asterisk indicating corresponding author; major/main author name in bold face
  • Affilication (centered, upper and lower case); if authors are from different institutions indicate with superscripts respective affiliations. Include address of the presenting author to enable interesting parties to contact authors; include telephone, fax and email.
  • Abstract body (justified, font size: 11)
  • Keywords (justified in lower case
  • Word format (97-2003 version)

Guidelines in preparing abstracts

  1. Abstract should fit in one page
  2. The introduction part should contain the scope and purpose of the work in 2-3 short sentences only.
  3. The experimental approach should be described briefly.
  4. Only highlights of results should be presented, which should be quantitative if possible, or as the nature of the paper permits.
  5. Uncommon acronyms should be spelled out the first time they are used; if several acronyms are used, they shoudl be listed with their meanings at the end of abstract.
  6. Only major conclusions should be stated.
  7. No more than five keywords should be mentioned.
  8. A list of references must not be included.

Abstracts that do not follow abovementioned format and guidelines will be returned automatically to the author(s).

Please check the NAST website (www.nast.ph for updates on the guidelines and for the list of abstract received for screening/evaluation. Authors of accepted/rejected papers will be notified via email starting 05 May 2015 and will be given further instructions on poster presention. Please note that traditional poster shall be the standard entires to the 37th Annual Scientific Meeting Poster Session.

THE OUTSTANSTANDING TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION AWARD
Gregorio Y. Lara Medal

The award is given in recognition of the efforts of technology generators and developers whose technologies have been commercialized. Only one award will be given each year.

Entries may come from any of the following:

      • Agriculture (including Aquaculture and Forestry)
      • Industry and Engineering (Energy, Environment, Earth Science, Textile, Process, Mining and Minerals, Materials Science, Transportation, Wood and Wood Products, Construction)
      • Health and Nutrition and Related Pharmaceutical and Social Sciences
      • Information Communications Technology (ICT), Multi-media, Electronics, Software, etc.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION

The Outstanding Technology Commercialization awardee will be chosen by the Board of Judges (to be appointed by NAST). The Board of Judges will formulate their own guidelines of judging based on the suggested criteria:

      • Contribution of technological developmentCommercialization Scale (Profitability & Productivity)
        1. originality/novelty/usefulness, innovation/adaptation (Patentability)
        2. potential for local value-added
      • Commercialization Scale (Profitability and Productivity)
      • Use of environment-friendly materials/technology
      • Direct benefits to the public
      • Presentation of Paper
GUIDELINES
  1. The contest is open to all Filipino researchers and inventors
  2. Technology must have been commercialized within ten (10) years preceding the award
  3. Each entry must have a write-up containing the following information:
    • Title of Technology
    • Description of Technology
    • Profile of the production/services, marketing and financial operations (including list of technology adopters and their addresses)
    • Impact of the technology on productivity and profitability to technologies
  4. Nominations may be made by hands of government or private research institutions, departments of colleges or universities, or acedemic/ professioal scientific organization or societies.
  5. The Board of Judges may, if found necessary, visit the plant's commercializing the technology
  6. Decisions of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable. Contestants or their representatives shall agree to the immunity of the members of the Board of Judges, DOST and their employees from any legal suit that may arise from or relative to the conduct, result, etc. of the contest.
  7. The Board of Judges has the right not to declare any winner
THE PRIZE

Winners will receive a cash prize and a medal.

THE OUTSTANDING RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal (for Basic Research)
Julian A. Banzon Medal (for Applied Research)

The award is given to individual/group who have made outstanding contribution through reserach,. Two types of awards will be given, namely: (1) Basic Research and (2) Applied Research

For Basic Research, entries may come from any of the follwing fields:

  1. Mathematics (Computer Science)
  2. Physical (Physics, chemistry, etc)
  3. Life Sciences (Biology, Botany, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, etc)

For Applied Research, entries may come from any of the following fields:

  1. Agriculture (including Aquaculture and Forestry)
  2. Industry and Engineering (Energy, Environment, Earth Science, Textile, Pharmaceuticals, Process, Mining and Minerals, Science, Transportation, Wood and Wood Products, Construction, Electronics, Information Technology, Engineering Technologies)
  3. Health and Social Sciences (Economics, Health, Nutrition, Science, Education and others.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION

The Outstanding Research Development awardee will be chosen by the Board of Judges (to be appointed by NAST). The Board of Judges will formulate their own guidelines of judging based on the suggested criteria:

  1. Creativity and originality of research work
  2. Suitanability of experimental design and appropriateness of methodology
  3. Substantiveness of data
  4. Clarity of presentation (conciseness, appropriate use of labels and figures technical accuracy of language, definition of terms)
  5. Interpretation of results
  6. Overall impact of research (immediate or potential) on socio-economic development, contribution to scientific knowledge
GUIDELINES
  1. The contest is open to all Filipino researchers or research groups with Filipinos as the principal investigators. The composition or leader of the research group should be documented
  2. Research should have been conducted mainly in the Philippines and completed within a period of three (3) years preceding the award
  3. Papers may either be basic or applied
  4. Papers to be considered or completed research must have been published or refereed for publication or should have been accepted for publication in a scientific or technological journal
  5. Original copies of reprints and monographs of entries including the abstract should be submitted. Entries should state the category of award under which they wish to compete.
  6. Nominations may be made by hands of government or private research institutions, departments of colleges or universities, or academic/ professional scientific organizations or societies.
  7. Decisions of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable. Contestants or their representatives shall agree to the immunity of the members of the Board of Judges, DOST and their employees from any legal suit that may arise from or relative to the conduct, results, etc of the the contest.
  8. The Board of Judges has the right not to declare any winner.

Winner of each category will receive a cash prize and a medal.

THE OUTSTANDING SCIENCE ADMINISTRATOR AWARD
Dioscoro L. Umali Medal

The award is given in recognition of S&T or R&D administrator who have made significant contributions to science and technology through effective management and implementation of plans and programs. The S&T or R&D administrator may come from the academe, private sector or government.

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION

The Outstanding Science Administrator awardeee will be choosen by the Board of Judges (to be appointed by NAST). The following are the criteria for evaluation:

      • Contribution to technological development
      • Resource generation activities
      • Dedication and commitment
      • Acceptance of peers and colleagues
GUIDELINES
  1. The award is open to all Filipino heads of S&T and/or R&D agencies or institutions from the academe, private sector or government.
  2. He/She must have been holding the said position for atleast two (2) years before the award.
  3. Candidates should be nominated by the heads of govenment or private institution with the following requirements:Effectiveness in fulfilling the mission and objectives of his or her institution.
    • Comprehensive bio-data
    • Accomplishments or contributions to S&T or R&D management in terms of projects implemented, resource generated and the like.
  4. Effectiveness in fulfillinf the mission and objectives of his/her institution.
  5. The board of Judges may, if found necessary, interview the candidates.
  6. Decisions of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable. 
  7. The Board of Judges has the right not to declare any winner.
THE PRIZE

Winner of each category will receive a cash prize and a medal.

The Magsaysay Future Engineers/Technologist aims to recognize outstanding research outputs on engineering and technology at the collegiate level and to ensure young Filipino students to pursue a career in science.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION

    • Filipino citizen
    • Bachelor of Science with research/study/thesis on engineering sciences and technology
    • Good moral character
    • Ability to present the research/study/thesis output during the paper presentation, which will be scheduled.
