2018 AgriTalk Davao

To continuously inspire more people to venture into farming, particularly for city dwellers to practice urban agriculture and learn other farming technologies, the last leg of this year’s Agritalk Free Seminars was held on 17 October 2018 at SM Davao City.

Agritalk is a collaborative effort of the Department of Agriculture through the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), and media partner, the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation. This event is being held in Quezon City and goes around the country in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindano, specifically in malls for easy access and wider reach.

Agritalk Davao featured six topics: 1) Squarefoot Urban Organic Gardening by Honorio Cervantes, a farmer-practitioner and a cooperator of an ATI Learning Site; 2) Organic Concoction Production by Emma Tolentino of Eco Natural Integrated Farm; 3) Mushroom Production by Glady Lutarte of DA-Regional Field Office 11; 4) Cacao Production by Simeon Fernandez of DA-RFO 11; 5) Promotion of Adlay as Food Staple Crop by Merly Salaver of DA-RFO 11; and 6) Flowering Plants in Edible Landscaping by Rowena Bienes of Allied Botanical.

Welcoming the participants during the activity were DA Asst. Secretary for Livestock and Poultry Enrico Garzon, ATI OIC-Director Luz Taposok, ATI Region 11 Center Director Dante Esguerra, and Manila Bulletin Vice President for Circulation Dante Simangan.

As one of the organizers and as part of its commitment to the public, BAR, through its Applied Communication Division, provided the livestream of the event for urban agriculture farming enthusiasts and for Filipino overseas who could not go to the venue.

Previously, Agritalk was held in Iloilo on May 12; in Cabanatuan on June 9; and in Quezon City on September 28. ###
