Field Day on Community-based Action Research for CRA in Region 11

The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (RFO) 11 conducted a “Field Day/Harvest Festival for Community-based Action Research for Climate-Resilient Agriculture (CRA) in Region 1” on 8 August 2018 at Brgy. Suawan, Marilog District in Davao City.

The activity is part of the project, “Community-Based Action Research for Climate-Resilient Agriculture (CRA) in Region 11” which is part of the Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) 2 Program that is being managed by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) through its Climate Change R&D Program in partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Systems Wide Climate Change Office and DA-RFO 11.

Leaders and members of different farmers associations, namely, Aguila Farmers Association, Lower Tamugan Integrated Rice Farmers Association, Upper Tamugan Integrated Rice Farmers Association, Magsaysay Multi-purpose Cooperative, Bagobo Woomens Association, and Datu Ulama Farmers Association; officials and representatives from Davao City Agriculture’s Office-Marilog District, attended the field day.

DA-RFO 11 Regional Technical Director Angelina S. Pancho, representing Regional Executive Director Engr. Ricardo Oñate, Jr., led the key officials, researchers, and staff of DA-RFO 11 during the activity. BAR OIC-Assistant Director Digna L. Sandoval graced the event representing BAR Director Nicomedes P. Eleazar. She was joined in by Ma. Eloisa H. Aquino of the Office of the BAR Director.

BAR initiated the crafting of the Climate Change Research, Development and Extension Agenda and Program (CC RDEAP) for Agriculture and Fisheries in support to the CC R&D program and thrusts. The CC R&D program of the bureau is now gearing towards commissioned researches based on the prioritized researchable agenda per sub-sector (crops, livestock, fisheries, cross-cut concerns). The identified priorities are based on the CC RDEAP 2016-2022. In the long run, the CC Program aims to mainstream the CC agenda in all the programs of DA to reduce vulnerability and increase the resiliency of the agri-fisheries sector. ###

DA-RFO 11 spearheaded the conduct of the Field Day/Harvest Festival Community-Based Action Research for Climate-Resilient Agriculture (CRA) in Region 11. The project is one of the pilot sites for the AMIA Village which aims to create CRA livelihoods in target climate-risk communities in Region 11. This is going to be achieved through locally-adapted CRA practices and enhanced community capacities for adaptive learning to climate change.
