The DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) attended the inauguration and turnover ceremony of the La Huerta Residential Edible Landscape (EL) Gardens on 23 June 2022 at Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village, La Huerta, Parañaque City. DA-BAR assistant director for Programs Joell H. Lales , together with Research Coordination Division head Amavel A. Velasco, and EL Garden project leader Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. led the ceremony.
To strengthen the capacities of urban communities toward self-sufficiency, the establishment of EL Garden is in support to the DA’s Plant Plant Plant Program which promotes the concept of square foot gardening of edible crops such as lady fingers, bitter gourd, and eggplant.
Fifteen households from the barangay are the target beneficiaries of the project. The event was also attended by Parañaque City mayor Hon. Edwin L. Olivarez; Brgy. La Huerta chairman Hon. Peter Augustine N. Velasco; GK Village Homeowner’s Association representative Robeta Ortega; and GK for Parañaque and Muntinlupa South Sector head Engr. Francisco Balagtas.
