ARMMIARC R&D bldg readies for multifunction

The R&D Multi Function Building of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Integrated Agricultural Center (ARMMIARC) Central Experimental Station at Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao was inaugurated with Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Luis Lorenzo gracing the occasion, 13 June 2003.

Secretary Lorenzo cut the ribbon along with Regional Governor Parouk Hussin, DA Undersecretary Edmund Sana, Regional Secretary Nasar Salmani, Mayor Datu Tocao Mastura, Dr. Santiago Obien and Mr. Rolando Labios, technical adviser and division chief of BAR's Institutional Development Division, respectively.

Following a Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) model design, construction of the P5.8M multi-function building was funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) through its Institutional Development Grant (IDG) under the project, "Strengthening the Capacity of R&D Centers". Dividing the project in two phases, the construction of the building started on 11 August 2001 and was completed on 15 December 2002.

The ARMMIAC R&D building is a three-storey building located in a 23 ha. area. It houses the Agricultural R&D Information System, scientific library, exhibition hall, audio-visual and seminar/conference room, RIARC office, prayer room and ARMMIARC personnel and research staff offices.

With this new building, scientists and researchers from the National Research Centers could now visit and engage in new exchanges and collaborations. Likewise, ARMMIARC could now host and facilitate important meetings and conferences related to R&D.
