Philfruits, Philcorn establishment plan presented

After several meetings and consultation, the establishment plan of the Philippine Tropical Fruits Research Center (Philfruits) and the Philippine Corn Research Center (Philcorn) were finally presented to Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Leonardo Q. Montemayor. The presentation was held at the OSEC Conference Room, DA Building, Quezon City on 25 June 2001.

The meeting was divided into two presentations. Presenting for the establishment plan of the Philfruits is Dr. Rey Luis I. Velasco, dean of the University of the Philippine Los Banos-College of Agriculture (UPLB-CA). On the other hand, presiding the presentation for the Philcorn was Dr. Santiago R. Obien, institutional development adviser of the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR).

Each presentation was allowed to have an open forum to clear and discuss issues relating to the establishment plan presented. Acting as the moderator were Bureau of Plant Industry Director Blo Umpar Adiong (for Philfruits) and National Corn Network Adviser Emiliana N. Bernardo (for Philcorn). Meanwhile, BAR Director Eliseo Ponce provided the introduction and the synopsis for the meeting.
