BPI reviews 15 completed studies

The Bureau of Plant Industry held their national R&D review at the National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS) Building , BPI, Diliman, Quezon City on 21-22 June 2001. A group of experts and scientist from the academe and various BAR networks reviewed fifteen completed studies on varietal improvement, crop protection, cultural management and urban agriculture.

BAR Director Eliseo R. Ponce was the keynote speaker during the opening ceremony. Director Blo Umpar Adiong delivered the message while Dr. Anastacia M. Gochanco, Chief of the Crop Research Division gave the rationale and the mechanics of the review during the opening program.

The completed studies were: 1) New technologies for Off-Season Leafy Vegetable Production and Tomato Production 2) Yield performance of Coffee as Influenced by Different Pruning Techniques and Rejuvenation Heights in CAR 3) Influence of Inorganic fertilizer Containing Sulfur on the Yield and Quality of the Three Processing Potato Cultivars 4) Culture and Management of Exportable Forage Crops 6) Germplasm Collection, Selection and Maintenance of Indigenous Plant Species for Agricultural and Medicinal Uses 7) Mapping and Assessment of Banana Diseases in the Cordillera Region 8) Characterization of Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV) Isolates in the Highlands and Evaluation of Mild Isolates for Cross-Protection 9) Persistence of Profenofos in Eggplant 10) Survey and identification of Virus Diseases Affecting Chayote in the Cordillera 10) Design and Development of Mango Picker 11) management of Snoutbeetle and Mites Pests on Citrus 12) Database Establishment for the Integrated Management of Citrus Huanglongbing Disease in the Cordillera Region 13) Survey and Identification of Diseases Attacking Cabbage in the Highlands 14) Improvement of the Formulation of Selected Pickled Products and 15) Potential Biological Control Agents of Mango Scale Insects.
