Urban agriculture RDE network established

Last 12 January 2000, representatives from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Cavite State University (CvSU), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), UP Los Baños (UPLB), DA-RFU IV and Benguet State University (BSU) attended the consultation meeting on the establishment of the Urban Agriculture RDE network at the CERDAF Board Room, ATI Building, Diliman, Quezon City.

During the meeting, various urban agriculture activities were presented. These included the operation of vegetable and ornamental modules of the ATI Regional Trainig Centers, technology showcases in CLSU, maintenance of greenhouses by the CvSU, development of compost for potted ornametals project of BSU, and the Agro-Industrial Development Program of UPLB.

Also, a draft concept on the formulation of the National Integrated Urban Agriculture RDE program was discussed to identify lead and member agencies, formulate mechanisms for integrating the current urban agriculture efforts, and present the new modality in agenda setting, planning and formulaiton for RDE in Agriculture and Fisheries. As agreed, th participants were tasked to prepare a report on the current status of urban agriculture in their respective agencies and areas, which will be used as an input in the formulation of the RDE framework on urban agriculture.
