Grants/ScholarshipsScholarship Grants Available (last updated 18 February 2008) DA-BAR FSP/MDPF (3 slots)Grants shall be made available to the R&D personnel of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and/or State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) engaged in agriculture/fisheries R&D if he/she meets the following requirements:
Thesis/Dissertation Financial Support Program (4 slots)Financial support of up to Fifty Thousand Pesos (Php 50,000.00) shall be provided for the conduct of thesis/dissertation in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, and their allied fields. Thesis/dissertation grant shall be made available to eligible R&D personnel of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and/or State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) engaged in agriculture/fisheries R&D and enrolled at the Mindanao State University (MSU) – Naawan (MS/PhD.). The applicant must meet the following requirements:

The application form must be submitted with complete attachment on or before March 31 (for first semester) and August 31 (for second semester). Scientific Career System for Statisticians (posted 12 June 2008) What is the Scientific Career System for Statisticians?The Scientific Career System for Statisticians (SCSS) is a system of recruitment, career progression, recognition and reward of statisticians in the public service. It is also a means to develop a pool of highly qualified and productive statisticians in the country. The system is generally patterned after the existing Scientific Career System (SCS) established on March 17, 1982 thru Executive Order No. 784. The SCS is managed by Department of Science and Technology. What are the career options for statisticians working in the government?There are two career options that statisticians working in the government can pursue. The first one is through the Scientific Career System (SCS) where five ranks can be aspired. The ranks and their corresponding salary grades under SCS are as follows:
The other option is through the Career Executive Service (CES). Those who would like to pursue this path need to hurdle the four-stage eligibility examination process administered by the Career Executive Service Board (CESB). How do applicants qualify for the SCSS?To qualify for the SCSS, applicants must be presently employed with permanent appointment in any government agency, and with masters or doctoral degree in statistics or related fields. MA/MS applicants to Scientist I to IV positions must have at least five years of productive scholarship and professional R and D work in Statistics. PhD applicants to Scientist I to IV positions must have at least five years productive scholarship and professional R and D work. Applicants to Scientist V position must have a PhD with ten years of productive scholarship and professional R and D work in statistics beyond doctorate. Who are disqualified from applying to the SCSS?Those who have retired from government service, applied for conferment or upgrading in rank six months before retirement (voluntary or compulsory), and who are on extension period before compulsory retirement will not be considered for the SCSS. Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) 2008-2009 in the Philippines(posted September 12, 2007)What is the JDS ProjectThe Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) project is the long-term scholarship project of the Government of the Philippines through the assistance of the Government of Japan. The objective of the JDS Project is to provide Philippine nationals with opportunities for obtaining master's degree at Japanese higher educational institutions in order to support the human resource development policies of the Government of the Philippines, and eventually to extend and strengthen the bilateral relations between Japan and the Philippines. 25 Filipinos will be given the opportunity to pursue master's degree in Japan for Japanese Fiscal Year 2008-2009. Target groupThe JDS Project targets young government employee who are expected to play leadership roles in the Philippines. The JDS Project is exclusively for the Philippine Public Sector.
