4th NATIONAL AGROFORESTRY CONGRESS

"agroforestry promotion for climate change mitigation and adaptation: building lessons from the field"

The 4th National Agroforestry Congress will be highlighted by the following:

  1. plenary and concurrent paper presentations that revolve around the multifunctionality of agroforestry and its role in climate change adaptation; agroforestry towards food security and biodiversity conservation; innovative approaches in agroforestry development and promotion, and; recent research developments in agroforestry and climate change
  2. Poster presentation highlighting research and development programs, including the community-based and people-oriented development projects in agroforestry
  3. Agroforestry Roadshow which aims to create public awareness about the potentials of agroforestry in climate change mitigation and adaptation
  4. Agroforestry Farmers’ Forum, the first national event that will recognize the agroforestry farmers through exhibits of their agroforestry products; poster exhibits of community-based agroforestry projects; selected presentations from the agroforestry farmers focusing on their testimonies about the potentials of agroforestry

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

  1. CONCURRENT PAPER PRESENTATION
  2. Individuals and groups who wish to present their initiatives in agroforestry development and promotion are invited to submit a 300-word abstract for consideration as an oral concurrent paper presentation. The abstract should be along the following topics:

    • Role of Agroforestry in Climate change Mitigation and Adaptation
    • Agroforestry Towards Food Security and Biodiversity Conservation
    • Promoting Agroforestry Enterprise Development
    • Innovative Approaches in Agroforestry Development and Promotion

    Abstracts should be submitted on or before June 30, 2009. Acceptance of abstracts shall be announced on July 30, 2009.

    The Congress Organizers will award the Best Paper for each concurrent session.

  3. POSTER PRESENTATION
  4. All individuals and groups who wish to present their unique agroforestry practices and projects are invited to submit abstract for Poster Presentation. There will be two major categories of Poster Presentation - Competing Poster Presentation, and a non-competing poster presentation.

    For non-competing poster presentation, the authors are requested to submit a 300-word abstract of the unique agroforestry practices and projects. Meanwhile, there will be two categories for the competing poster papers, namely: Outstanding Agroforestry Project, and Outstanding Agroforestry Practice.

    Entries for Outstanding Agroforestry Practice will highlight the agroforestry practices being employed by the farmer in his own agroforestry farm using the attached case profile format, while, entries for the Outstanding Agroforestry Project will highlight the agroforestry projects being implemented by a group (e.g. people's organization, NGOs, academic institution, research institution, government agencies, etc), using the attached project profile format.

    Proponents for the non-competing and competing poster papers should submit their abstracts on or before June 30, 2009. Acceptance of poster papers will be announced on or before July 30, 2009.

    A registration fee of Php4000 covers food (buffet dinner on November 18; buffet breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks on November 19, and breakfast, snacks and lunch on November 20); two-night accommodation (November 18 and 19); airport/pier pick-up; Congress Souvenir Program/Book of Abstracts; souvenir item; and CD of Agroforestry Songs.

    Submission of registration forms is on or before September 20, 2009 to the PAFERN Secretariat using the address given above. We also encourage prospective participants to remit the registration fee either via bank transfer (PAFERN Acct. 1891-0617-37 Landbank of the Philippines UPLB-Branch ) or money order (payable to PAFERN, Inc., c/o Institute of Agroforestry-CFNR, UPLB, College, Laguna).
