Message from the Director

Welcome to the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) website. We have put forth a great effort to provide you with the most recent and easy to access information about our current initiatives and priority programs. As a service-oriented bureau of the Department of Agriculture (DA), it is important that we provide you with this kind of information because it helps us fulfill our commitment to public service.

Agriculture and fishery research and development (R&D) plays an important role in promoting a nation's economic growth. Far from simply transforming great ideas into useful technologies, R&D takes the lead in improving the way people live. This is the challenge that BAR has willfully accepted for more than two decades now.

As the lead government agency that coordinates and funds research for agriculture and fisheries in the country, we are committed to improve and strengthen the system ensuring customer satisfaction and continuous improvement through work excellence, teamwork and networking, and accountability.

As we envision a stable and progressive future for the Filipinos transforming the industry from a resource-based to a technology-based industry, there is a need to continuously innovate with the changing time. This entails the development of informational, knowledge-based strategies, methods, and technologies that will make the sector productive and truly competitive.

As an innovating research funding institution, there is a need to immediately address concerns that matter the most. Thus, BAR focuses its activities and initiatives on programs that are geared towards the enhancement of production and profitability, resource sustainability and protecting biodiversity, global competitiveness, and poverty alleviation and people empowerment.

Two of the current initiatives of BAR include the intensification of Community-Based Participatory Action Research Program (CPAR) and the commercialization of appropriate technologies through the National Technology Commercialization Program (NTCP).

Likewise, improving the quality of R&D governance is central to the objective of developing a more efficient and responsive R&D system that caters to the most important needs of the farming and fishing communities.

I would like to personally invite you to tour our website and to make this information a part of an enriched and healthy experience in building a modernized agriculture sector.

Happy browsing!
